How did I become a columnist for North Texas Farm & Ranch magazine?

It was in December of 2018 when I received an email from the magazine’s editor inviting me to join their monthly columnist team. What this dear editor didn’t know is the struggle through grief I was living with when I received her email. I had just lost my mamma, my step-dad, and my seventeen-year-old dog all within the past couple of months. I was devastated as well as emotionally exhausted from the past several years of caregiving. I had lost two of my brothers a couple of years earlier, too. I was sad. I had not even begun to think about what I would do next with my life. Up to that point, my days were totally committed to caring for all of my beloveds. My new “quiet” was almost unbearable.

This editor’s invitation brought light into my life. It would have me reflecting on my life’s evolution as a cattle ranching partner with my husband and sharing my perspective as a one-time city girl who found herself living in the country when she married. I had written many columns and books over the course of the decade prior, but honestly, I had not focused on my life as a cattle rancher. Heck, up to that point of my life I had not even considered myself a cattle rancher. Read my “About” section for my epiphany on that topic!

My first column “When a city girl goes country” was published in the February 2019 magazine issue and continues to this day. The magazine is published monthly. I absolutely LOVE the magazine and enjoy reading it from cover to cover.
